The Mission Statement of the SA Transplant Society is to “always strive to benefit the patient and the professionals of transplantation through advocacy, innovation and with integrity”. Since its inception, SATS has promoted sharing of knowledge between transplant teams around the country by holding regular national congresses - for the benefit of patients in the public and private sector who require heart, liver, lung and kidney transplants.

SATS encourages and supports Medical, Nursing and other Allied Health Professionals to attend and contribute to the Congresses which promotes teamwork and inclusivity. SATS has supported the expansion of transplantation in South Africa by providing an informative website for transplant professionals to consult regarding important current advances and issues in transplantation (issues related to COVID during the pandemic; advances in immunosuppression and treatment modalities etc.) for the benefit of the patients.

SATS collaborates with other role players in transplantation in South Africa (e.g. Vitanova Tissue Bank, Organ Donor Foundation to improve public awareness of the need for organs and tissue for transplantation for the benefit of all patients in need) as well as with International transplant organisations to maintain a high standard of treatment and care for transplant patients in the public and private sector.
